Is the end of one’s studies also the end of a voyage of self-discovery? Can an illustrator only have one style? Only be one individual? Or can an artistic emancipation and opening up take place when one detaches oneself from one’s self? I would like to pursue these questions with my work Party für Toto. During the conception and creation I, together with Prof. Heiner Blum, observed myself and my drawings. While doing so I questioned which style I use when, and which part of myself comes out from the individual illustrations. I am no longer just Isabel Blumenthal, I am also Mina, Kirsten, Christoph and Cosmo. They are all a part of who I am and I am a part of them. Together we want pars pro toto, to celebrate a Party für Toto as well as diversity in a group exhibition.
